Italy

Italy is often ignored when people think about WW2. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it is because their crimes, though terrible and in many ways comparable to Germany, were on a smaller scale. But for those affected, they were not less in any way. All of those murdered for whatever reason were just as dead, and families left without them mourned just as much, if any family were left alive to mourn.
Italy had a secret police that would find out which citizens didn't support the regime. Those people would be threatened, or disappear, or be tortured, or murdered in the street.
Although Italy initially was not anti-Semetic, later in the war, they did go after Jews just like Germany did. Toward the end of the war, Germany was operating in Italy as well, committing their own atrocities there.
But Italy also committed atrocities outside of their borders too. See more at the following links.
